Why host a food drive?

• 1 in 6 of our neighbors are food insecure. Gleaners, with the help of good people like you, collects and distributes food to 21 counties in central Indiana. Without you, this would not be possible.

What items (donations) do you need?

• We have a basic list of items we’re always in need of (see our most needed items list), but our specific needs change monthly. Contact Heather Conner to see what Gleaners needs most of today.

Do you accept cash donations?

• Yes! $1 = 3 Meals. Most food drive participants create a group fundraising page. With our buying power of 10:1, we are able to get large quantities of the items we need at a fraction of the cost. Monetary donations also allow us purchase perishable items, like dairy and meat, we can’t collect at a food drive. Do you provide donation collection barrels? What about donation pickups?

• Gleaners will provide collection barrels and donation transportation when 3+ barrels of donations are available. Otherwise we request donations are brought directly to Gleaners

• 1 mile = 10 meals. For every mile we save, Gleaners can provide 10 additional meals to hungry Hoosier families.

How big are your collection barrels?

• Gleaners food drive barrels are 55 gallon drums, size equivalent to a large industrial trash can, and hold approximately 300 cans. A full barrel can weigh 250 pounds or more!

Can I collect donations in my own boxes?

• Yes, please! Feel free to collect donations in your own containers and bring them to us at the conclusion of your drive. This is preferred. For every mile saved, Gleaners can provide 10 additional meals to hungry Hoosier families.

• As a thank you for driving to us, we’re happy to provide your group with a tour when you drop off donations (must schedule with Heather Conner first)

How do I get started?

• You may complete the easy registration here: https://www.gleaners.org/get-involved/food-drive-registration/. A member of our team will contact you to confirm details within 48 hours.

Where do I bring my donations?

• Gleaners Food Bank is located on the southwest side of Indy at 3737 Waldemere Ave, Indianapolis IN 46241. We're near the intersection of Hanna & Kentucky Ave.

• When you arrive, follow the “Food Donations” and “Receiving” signs around to the back of the building and look for the overhead door with DONATIONS on it. Ring the bell and we'll come out to help you unload

When can I drop off donations?

• Gleaners is open to accept donations between 7:30am – 3pm Monday through Friday. We ask, when possible, that you please call prior to your arrival so that our staff may be prepared to assist: 317-925-0191.

When can I find out how much food my group donated?

• Please allow 5 business days for processing final weights of the food drive
